Days with Her (2021)

This book is for my foster mother, myself and the hope to find either her or my birth mother. Longing for and looking for reunion in a daunting attempt to reform my lost first family due to adoption.

Adoption and the disconnectedness from the system to the abandoned child, to the birth family (first family), scars and leaves the adoptee sometimes without memory of this disheartening process of family loss. But on occasion, reputable adoption agencies have the resources but don't tell you the fine print, or they provide photos, clothing, toys and other sentimental items which prospective parents are given on the day the adopted child becomes theirs. This realization of never really believing my memory of my time inside my birth mother's womb, and after I lived with my foster mother, all of those life events are foreign to my eyes. In order to find some attachment to these real events that transpired while as an orphaned infant, I posed a timeline stream to the photos taken and given to my family when I came home with them. A piece of me will always be within reach of both worlds (in my birth country, and with my adopted family).

I find the accordion style book format does show each day I was away with an adopted mother of my own that treated me with tenderness I have no information of who she is or what she looks like. But I was fortunate to find that in these beautiful photographs of myself growing up with a loving mother figure nonetheless. This book is for her, myself and the hope to find either one of them in this daunting family search for belonging.
