Artist Biography

Julianna Souther

(b. 1998, Seoul, South Korea; lives in Corvallis, Oregon)

Julianna Souther is an Alumna of Oregon State University. She completed her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Photography, with a Minor in Printmaking, in December 2021. Souther’s practice focuses heavily on documenting her story and those of her community, struggling with their identities that challenge the International Adoptee and Asian American spaces. Through their narratives, her projects reflect important issues for achieving clarity and change, as well as for inspiring useful conversation inside unfamiliar dialogues. Souther has twice been the recipient of the Kelsi Rae Ford Memorial Scholarship, and this year was awarded the College of Liberal Arts’ Outstanding Senior Award by Oregon State. Last fall, she was honored to present her thesis show, "Breaking Misconceptions", which included a reception and artist talk given on October 7, 2021, at the Little Gallery on campus.

Outside Souther’s own art practice, she assists in facilitating art workshops at Cornerstone Associates’ Living Studios of Corvallis, a nonprofit art program serving neurodiverse artists. Souther has been actively creating opportunities for these artists, including an art exhibition in collaboration with one of the affiliated artists, titled Under Observation, at the Corvallis Book Bin Window Gallery, and the recent month-long group exhibit at the Truckenbrod Gallery downtown.
